Ripping Off The Dead!
Ripping Off The Dead! Somehow this just seems SO New York to me… This poor guy better be having a nice afterlife to make up for his ridiculous treatment in death! Corpse Wheeled to Check-Cashing Store Leads to 2 Arrests By BRUCE LAMBERT and CHRISTINE HAUSER Even for the once-notorious Hell’s Kitchen neighborhood, it may have been a first: Two men were arrested on Tuesday after pushing a corpse, seated in an office chair, along the sidewalk to a check-cashing store to cash the dead man’s Social Security check, the police said. When Virgilio Cintron, 66, died at his apartment at 436 West 52nd Street recently, his roommate and a…

The Every-Christ?
The Every-Christ? The more I research this, the more I have begun to consider the claims that perhaps Jesus Christ is a mythical figure handed down (“reincarnated”) in a giant game of telephone from the very earliest myths of a Savior or Son of God… Here, for example, is an interesting musing on this concept that will possibly blow your mind – check it out… HORUS OF EGYPT The stories of Jesus and Horus are very similar, with Horus even contributing the name of Jesus Christ. Horus and his once-and-future Father, Osiris, are frequently interchangeable in the mythos (“I and my Father are one”). The legends of Horus go back…

Rituals of the Self
Rituals of the Self I have a young baby so partying ’til midnight for New Years was not exactly on the agenda. This year, to welcome 2008, I created what I hope will become a new ritual. I lay the baby down for her last sleep of 2007 (the year of her birth) and stepped into a piping hot shower. With the new scrubby sponge my sister Kate gave me for Christmas, and the earthy geranium soap I’ve been using since the Christmas before, I began to scrub. I scrubbed from the bottom up – bottoms of tired new mama feet, the flat planes of knee caps achey from bearing…

Five Years Left to Sigh In
Five Years Left to Sigh In As the glorious David Bowie sang, “We’ve got five years, my brain hurts a lot. Five years, that’s all we’ve got.” Indeed, if you believe in the 2012 Mayan prophecy, exactly five years from today the current cycle of our world is said to come to an end according to the 5,125 year Creation Cycle and the 26,000 year Grand Cycle, otherwise known as the Precession of the Equinoxes. The coming end date of December 21, 2012 is also written as 13.0.0.0.0. in Mayan long count notation. Cheers to a great renewal in the “reincarnation” of the world! Alas, all ends are a beginning.…

Conference on Proof of the Afterlife
Conference on Proof of the Afterlife The Conference on Proof of the Afterlife will take place in late January at Fort Mason in San Francisco, itself a reincarnated space so to speak – once industrial maritime waterfront, now chic space for an organic restaurant, gorgeous performance spaces for the arts, and the home of the ultra intellectual Long Now Foundation. The event is brought to us by the Forever Family Foundation, a non-profit, non-sectarian organization that supports the premise that life does not end with physical death. The groundbreaking conference that will bring together world renowned scientists, medical doctors, researchers, and mediums with a goal of educating the general public.…

Grotto of Romulus and Remus Unveiled
Grotto of Romulus and Remus Unveiled Sanctuary of Rome’s ‘Founder’ Revealed (This news comes to us from back in November, but it seems worthy of posting even if a bit late…) Archaeologists in Rome Unveil Grotto Linked to Mythical Founder Romulus By ARIEL DAVID Associated Press Writer ROME Nov 20, 2007 (AP) Archaeologists on Tuesday unveiled an underground grotto believed to have been revered by ancient Romans as the place where a wolf nursed the city’s legendary founder Romulus and his twin brother Remus.Decorated with seashells and colored marble, the vaulted sanctuary is buried 52 feet inside the Palatine hill, the palatial center of power in imperial Rome, the archaeologists…

The Buddhist Reincarnation Files…
The Buddhist Reincarnation Files… The concept that China has decided it needs to “approve” reincarnations never ceases to amaze me. If it were not so inconvenient for Tibetans, I’d find it practically laughable in its utter absurdity. Here is an update on the quagmire, with a link to the most recent news near the bottom of the post… Dalai Lama challenges China – with a referendum on reincarnation Exiled leader fights back at Chinese attempt to control Buddhist selection process Randeep Ramesh in New Delhi and Jonathan Watts in Beijing The Guardian The Dalai Lama.
